Impact99 – Vancouver 2012

A room full of HR people, bloggers and thought leaders I follow on social media. Being greeted by ‘Hey you must be @LinJonas’ on Twitter. What an experience! Welcome to Impact99 🙂

Impact99 is all about social media, changes in society and the consequential new work place requirements. It is a collaborative and fun day with a twitter stream on the wall, group learning and open communication. We kicked off with an interactive exercise where we got to rate our company based on 8 guiding principles of a social workplace. Operational transparency scored very low, it is time to open up business cultures! The day was content rich but ‘presentation style’ diverse day which made it a breeze to follow. We had many little breaks to mingle, connect and share. Unique to this summit was the first ever Canadian CEO-HR think tank! Great concept with very diverse HR related pitches to 3 candid CEOs. A personal highlight was my own learning pod, presenting how changes in society require an agile approach to performance management, showcasing Small Improvements an having an insightful discussion with the group afterwards.

The event was engaging until the last minute. And then, of course, there was the ‘after party’. Casual snacks and drinks to wind down followed by a fun dinner with the organisers and a few speakers. What a day! It truly left an impact on me. Thanks to everyone involved! Bring on take two in Toronto on October 24th!
